hyperlocal for Thomas Piercy

Hyperlocal (2015) from Melissa Grey on Vimeo.

hyperlocal (2015) is composed for bass clarinet and sine waves that slowly ascend and descend, venturing beyond the range of human hearing. A quiet beat is audible throughout and signifies the arrival of a new frequency. Within this slowly evolving droning texture, the lowest range and darkest timbre of the bass clarinet are explored. Thomas Piercy improvises with quiet textures and extended techniques to blend and interact with the electronic sound. Hyperlocal is dedicated to Thomas Piercy.

A new version, Hyperlocal 2.0, includes programmed beats by David Morneau.

+ premiere May 2015 at Gallery MC, New York City
