Tenet, an electroacoustic work for organ, was composed for Claudia Dumschat and the C. B. Fisk organ in the Church of the Transfiguration, NYC. It is based on the transliteration of a mysterious Latin phrase: sator arepo tenet opera rotas. This unique palindrome and magic square can be read top-to-bottom, bottom-to-top, left-to-right, and right-to-left, and roughly translates as: the sower Arepo keeps the work moving.

In performance, the recorded sound provides a fixed matrix in which the organist is free to choose registrations and to enter and exit at will, but is restricted to the twenty-five transliterated pitches.
